The narrative leaps forward to the ruins of King Galen’s Castle, where a modern trio, Katrine, Nicholas, and Ronim, are drawn into the consequences of this ancient pact. The plot’s construction is revealed as Katrine, marked by a distinctive bird-wing birthmark, discovers a canister containing an exquisite gold ring, the artifact hidden by Father Timothy a thousand years prior. The discovery triggers a cascade of events, suggesting that the lives of these modern characters are not accidental but are irrevocably linked by the forces set in motion in the Dark Ages.
